Mark 1:35-39 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
After studying the gospel of Matthew, we now begin a new journey through the gospel of Mark. As I read the chapter, I noticed that Mark has a very concise style of writing and seems to include a lot in little space, something that I should probably be doing 🙂 What seemed amazing to me today is to note that Jesus, even though the Son of God, always sought the Lord God in prayer in a quiet and solitary place. Jesus with all his wisdom, abilities to heal, bless and transform people spent time with his father in prayer and that made me ask what that meant for us?
I believe we are seekers because we are constantly looking for something. When we are happy, we seek to keep things that way so as not to loose our happiness, and when we are down, we seek a way back to happiness. Some of us know the Lord and therefore seek his help to resolve our issues and bring us back to a place of comfort but this may not be the same when we are happy. Jesus during his ministry constantly sought the father whether in times of achievement or brokenness. Even though he was God’s own son and had all the power and authority in heaven, he still acknowledged his father in all things and this is something we need to do too. Do you have a quiet time with the Lord daily and do you share your joys and sorrows with him? He seeks to have a relationship with us and calls us with open arms.
