Genesis 6:9-14,17-18,22 These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God. Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with violence. God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth. Then God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. “Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with rooms, and shall cover it inside and out with pitch… “Behold, I, even I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish. “But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife, and your sons’ wives with you… Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did.

This is a story most people I know are aware of not because they read the Bible but because it is a story that is told to little children just like any other fabled tale. There are cute cartoons that depict this story and this has also been a point of great debate as to whether God actually flooded the entire earth and saved just Noah and his family plus 2 of every creation and we today, regardless of race, are therefore offspring of Noah?

Every passage that we read in the Bible is rife with questions asked by humans of great intelligence and what is God trying to establish by presenting such hard to accept matters? (more…)

2 Peter 2:1-4,9-10

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment… if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority.

As a christian, I find it hard to accept and reject teachings that are supposedly word-based but seem rather disconnected from what Jesus taught. Several scholars of the word have taken learnings from the word and created ideologies or given christian walk a new direction and I always worry that I will be directed off the path God would have me walk if I am not careful. Contorting wisdom to benefit our own desires is not an uncommon reality of humanity. How do we as christians know what’s right and what’s not? How is our faith safeguarded and is there something the Lord is saying to us today through His word? (more…)

Titus 1:15-16
To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.

As I read the verses above, I thought they were rather harsh. Most people don’t consider themselves pure and holy but don’t also consider themselves corrupt and impure either. If one is not pure, there certainly must be some middle-ground that God would see them by because most humans are not murderers, adulterers, thieves, criminals or anything that the law would look at as ‘out of order’ from normal society. Why does Paul go on this trip about the impure and then takes it to the next level by calling them detestable and unfit for doing anything good? What is God saying to us today?

A challenge with reading the word of God is never to take anything out of context because the context is relevant to what is being spoken. Here Paul talks about people who lead the Church astray by following myths and doctrines that are outside of the Bible and therefore misleading other followers of Christ. As far as God’s standards for man, the word of God is very clear that all human kind has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. When we consider our lives, we may not be considered a criminal in the eyes of the world but to God, a lie, an ill thought, etc are all sinful and this is something all humans are guilty of. God’s standards are much higher than ours and therefore to be able to connect with God, we need to reach His standards which is impossible. However, Jesus Christ was sent by God, His own father, to live among us, to show us what God expected of us, and was killed because we rejected Him and after 3 days was resurrected to show that He was greater than sin and death and to those who believed in Him, He offered us a way back to God the Father through His shed blood on the cross. Are you saved by God’s abundant grace or sold to the Devil?

Titus 3:3 For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.
