1 Timothy 1:15-17
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Today we start Paul’s letter to Timothy and this is a pastoral epistle or a letter of instruction to a Church leader. You and I may not be Church leaders but as we serve Christ to the world, we may have opportunities to teach or discipline other Christians and so this book is vital to our understanding. To you, the statement above might sound repetitive and I don’t blame you for thinking that way. It seems like this message is written all over the Bible but what purpose does God have in mentioning it to us today? Is it that we need to be reminded of what Christ did for us or because He wants us to look back at the cross of calvary?

As I walk with the Lord, I meet people of different backgrounds who are saved by Jesus and I also meet people who are seeking a savior. In each person, I find real meaning and purpose and I can see how God can use them for His glory but when I look at myself, I wonder if I was just lucky. Paul’s statement helped me understand again the purpose of my life. I might never have thought it possible until that day when I sat at the foot of Jesus and asked Him to be my Lord and Savior. I saw my life as pointless and sin filled and I knew I deserved no mercy but He in His gracious nature accepted me, cleaned me up and now looks at me as His own. I was once the worst of sinners and today I am a new creation and the world around me can see that even though I once was lost, I am now found and live on His grace alone. I pray you find freedom in Christ that this world can never give you, no matter what.

In His Loving Service,

Mark 2:17 And hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
