1 Corinthians 8:1-3, 13
Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. But the man who loves God is known by God… Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall.

Today’s chapter deals with eating food sacrificed to idols, something you may not be accustomed to. In those times, food sacrificed to idols was offered to people in the market place, in places of worship and at events. The Corinthian church members had no problems eating such food because they knew that these idols were nothing and they followed the one true God. The newer members however, found this difficult to accept and understand and it caused them to be confused and sin. Are we responsible for the sins of others?

Back in the day before I accepted Christ as my Lord and Saviour, parties were ones where alcohol flowed, tongues slurred, crude jokes cracked, lewd songs sung and embarrassment was an unfamiliar concept. I once went to my wife’s (Then my girlfriend) family party and I was shocked that they partied without liquor, crude jokes and embarrassing moments. Their parties were about fellowship, singing songs that glorified God, prayer, awesome food, good jokes and the sharing of the word. As a seeking Christian, that was what brought me to my knees and I wanted to be a part of this family. Paul reminds us that we need to watch what we do for those who are quietly seeking might look at us and falter in their walk. Lets be conscious of our actions for the consequence may be another man’s eternal loss. Lets be worthy Ambassadors for Jesus in this world!
