Exodus 8:6,7,15,16,18,19,24,25,28,31,32 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land. But the magicians did the same things by their secret arts; they also made frogs come up on the land of Egypt… But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the ground,’ and throughout the land of Egypt the dust will become gnats.”… But when the magicians tried to produce gnats by their secret arts, they could not. And the gnats were on men and animals. The magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not listen, just as the LORD had said… And the LORD did this. Dense swarms of flies poured into Pharaoh’s palace and into the houses of his officials, and throughout Egypt the land was ruined by the flies. Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God here in the land.”… Pharaoh said, “I will let you go to offer sacrifices to the LORD your God in the desert, but you must not go very far. Now pray for me.”… and the LORD did what Moses asked: The flies left Pharaoh and his officials and his people; not a fly remained. But this time also Pharaoh hardened his heart and would not let the people go.

Three more plagues are used by God to speak to Pharaoh and the Egyptians but three more times they chose to ignore God’s warnings.

It’s odd that God says He is the one who hardens Pharaoh’s hearts and He also is the one who sends Moses and Aaron to free the Israelites. Not the most efficient use of resources one would think.

Time and time again, we see that the magicians and sorcerers can match each of God’s plagues with similar plagues of their own and this shows us the power of the evil one.

After the plague of the frogs, they are not able to perform with the gnats or flies and in fact they come up to Pharaoh to state that God’s hand is in each of these plagues and therefore Pharaoh should comply with God’s demands.

When I consider the actions of the magicians in Egypt, I am reminded of all the ‘magic’ of modern times that we live and accept as interesting in our times too.

Astrology, rei-ki, tantric healing, yoga, meditation, horoscopes, martial arts, etc. are forms of such ‘magic’ that have a powerful effect on us these days. While Christianity is a ‘taboo’ topic on campuses and in offices, all the others are acceptable modern-day ‘arts’ or exercises that are in our newspapers, neighborhoods, schools and even thrive in regions of the world where there is no religious freedom!

Mankind is willing to blindly accept that which is not from God and use it to talk into our lives but we are unwilling to let God any room in our lives.

Is this not the same as the incidents back in Egypt during Moses’ time? Is there not such an amazing correlation between Pharaoh and us in our response to God versus the evil one? On February 10, 2011, Hosni Mubarah (ex-president of Egypt) refused to step down even after weeks of rioting by the people in his country. Does that not bear a resemblance to Pharaoh’s response?

God certainly permits us to make choices as was clear then and even today and our choices define our destiny. Are you willing to defy God by choosing that which is not from Him and live with the consequence of it or are you willing to humble yourself before Jesus Christ and accept His yoke and be blessed by His hand?

In His Loving Service,

Malachi 3:5 I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and don’t fear me,” says Yahweh of Armies.

Seems like there will always be counterfeits of what is real and of Him. Praying that everyone will see the Truth, see what and who is real . . .Jesus! Nothing else is going to save or help. God bless you as you get the Word out!

      Hi Deb,
Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in my response. I’ve been down with the flu and time online has been limited. Well, you said it right about counterfeits. There are many Jesus’ and many false prophets walking around steering the unbelievers away from Jesus. Worse still, there are many wolves in our churches today watering down the gospel and steering us far from the reality of faith God wants us to live in. Our only hope truly is Jesus Christ and I pray that He will continue to reveal Himself to us through His word and that we will sincerely follow Him and share this Jesus Christ of the Bible to the world around us.

    Thanks Vineet,

“Our choices define our destiny” This story could have had such a different ending but Pharoah’s hard heart had already set the tone for his undoing. God can send all the warning He wants, if we choose not to respond, we’ll suffer the consequences.

I am oh so thankful that He redeemed me. I chose to walk away from Him…. He chose to love me back to the security that is found only in Him. ( I keep saying it, but one of these days I will write that book to the glory of His name!)

It’s easy for the heart to be hardened. Easy for Him to undo what we’ve done to ourselves. Not so easy for us to yield.

Thank you so much, Vineet. I know you don’t mind the ‘long responses’ but I shall restrain myself 🙂 I’ll share with you what could well be my all-time favourite song to Him. At one point, my own heart was as hard as stone. I am so thankful that He had the patience to love me back to Truth!

Praying I’ll never forget to allow Him to order my steps and shape my destiny. My life is in His hands!

    Blessings,
    ann

    SIDEBAR
What you have written below is a topic for discussion in it’s own right. I’ve had ‘fights’ with friends who refuse to research and discover the truth for themselves. Exercise is one thing … these practices are not as innocent as they appear.

    Hi Ann,

Wonder if I can hit like many times to show you how much I appreciate your comment. Just like you, I am so grateful God is not about saving only those who seek Him but He is keen to save the broken, the least worthy of all His creation and that is what I count myself as before He came and knocked my heart. Today all that I am is because of His grace and everything worthy in my life is only because of Him.

As far as that sidebar comment above, well, it is such a reality where I live. Everyone around me is fully immersed in yoga without understanding the spiritual significance and as much as we think we are not going to be affected, we will eventually when we start to get into the meditative states and understand the significance of each of the postures which is supposed to open our minds to God’s spirit, unfortunately not the God of the Bible.

Martial arts is another area where I find everyone sending their kids into without understanding the spiritual significance of the ‘art’. The power used to fight or defend is supposed to be passed on from master to student and one is supposed to draw on the strength from within their own spirit…what is all of that if it is not spiritual and this scares me when I see Christians sending their children into such activities.

Instead of dwelling on all of this that the world has been misled us to, I pray that we will find our hope and joy in the loving arms of our savior, Jesus Christ, who alone is all SUFFICIENT!

    In Christ,
    Vineet
