Genesis 49:1,2,9-12,28-29 Then Jacob called his sons and said, “Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you what shall happen to you in days to come. “Assemble and listen, O sons of Jacob, listen to Israel your father… Judah is a lion’s cub; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down; he crouched as a lion and as a lioness; who dares rouse him? The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. Binding his foal to the vine and his donkey’s colt to the choice vine, he has washed his garments in wine and his vesture in the blood of grapes. His eyes are darker than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk… All these are the twelve tribes of Israel. This is what their father said to them as he blessed them, blessing each with the blessing suitable to him. Then he commanded them and said to them, “I am to be gathered to my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite.

The last moments of Israel’s life are not lost in sorrow and brooding but are spent in ministering and prophesying about God‘s plans for his 12 sons.

When we read some of the prophecies, it seems as though Israel is telling some of his sons off but when we look at the future, all his prophecies prove true and this is witness to the fact that he spoke with vision that only God could give him.

Therefore we come to end of another era of a Bible great and wonder what God has in store for us today?

Jacob brought his sons together to explain to them how they needed to be together unlike the sons of his fathers Abraham and Isaac. Even though his words were harsh to some of his sons, they were purposeful and we will see and appreciate them in time.

The gift of prophecy that Jacob had been an interesting one because it helped him foretell great things about his own but when Joseph was lost those many years, he had no clue what happened.

This tells us that God gives us gifts that are to be used for His glory alone and not for our own benefit. Joseph’s ability to read dreams was a God-given gift and was useful for the glory of God.

Today I was also reminded of the lion of Judah, Jesus Christ, who came from Judah’s lineage and the words Jacob used for Judah seem to reflect Jesus most. Jacob was given the vision of Jesus and this was a prophecy of the coming messiah!

At some point in our lives, we will stop to exist and what matters not is how great we were or how much we were worth but the legacy we leave. The greatest legacy we can leave is the truth about the truth or the truth about Jesus Christ for he is the all-in-all and in Him is a life of fulfillment and purpose beyond any other.

I pray today that you and I will revisit the cross and re-examine our hearts to see how desperately we need Jesus as our Savior and how only He can make us complete.

In His Loving Service,
ServantBoy

    Vineet,

I just wanted to let you now how much I enjoy reading what you presented and I look forward to the next series. I’m thankful for your obedience to respond to Him this way. Thank you ever so much. We’re often not aware of how God uses us (our words) to impact others.

May I never lose sight of my need for Jesus and my ‘nothingness’ without Him. Nothing matters unless He’s a part of it.

      Hi Ann,

Thank you for your comment. When I read the line ‘We’re often not aware of how God uses us (our words) to impact others’, I was reminded of how we need to be careful about dealing with those around us. I’m so used to just saying what comes to mind, specially in my work back in Asia where fear was the key to success.

It is amazing how God changes us at the very core and uses us to glorify His name and that was evidenced in Jacob’s life when from deceiver he became the one to bless many with his words.

Unfortunately for me, I cannot see watch the video you linked above as my present connection does not permit it but I cannot wait to watch it later. Thank you for blessing me with a relevant and meaningful song.

      In Christ,
      Vineet

So sorry you can’t hear the song but as Deb says, it’s full of grace. Leaving you the lyrics so you can ‘sing along’ whenever you get a chance to listen

        We’re pilgrims on the journey
        Of the narrow road
And those who’ve gone before us line the way
Cheering on the faithful, encouraging the weary
Their lives a stirring testament to God’s sustaining grace

Surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses
Let us run the race not only for the prize
But as those who’ve gone before us
Let us leave to those behind us
The heritage of faithfulness passed on through godly lives

        CHORUS:
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
May the fire of our devotion light their way
May the footprints that we leave
        Lead them to believe
And the lives we live inspire them to obey

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful

After all our hopes and dreams have come and gone
And our children sift through all we’ve left behind
May the clues that they discover and the memories they uncover
Become the light that leads them to the road we each must find

        REPEAT CHORUS

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful

          Hi Ann,
Just watched the video and praised God through the words and music of that song. Thank you for making the effort to post the words here. May we and all who follow us be found faithful indeed!
          In Christ,

Thank you for the song Ann, full of grace! and music! 🙂

Vineet, thank you for helping us to think and pray about the legacy we leave behind. I do think about that. I will not be leaving much in the way of material goods or finances, but there is something else I can leave, the evidence of a life lived for Him. Thank you for your prayers and your posts! God bless you as Jesus moves in and through you today!

    • ServantBoy says:

      Hi Deb,

Thank you for confirming that the song is a blessing and I cannot wait to watch it. Like you, I am not going to leave a tangible legacy for my generations to come and even if I did, I would like to be remembered just like you put it, with ‘the evidence of a life lived for Him’. Our lives are lived to be signposts directing people to Jesus and that’s the greatest honor I can imagine I have been given. I pray you and I are good and worthy signposts for His glory!

      In Christ,
      Vineet

Vineet, I hope you don’t mind us having a party over here! ha! Ann, your laughter and singing is such a blessing. And I can’t believe you posted that song, Beautiful One! For so long my daughter and I have heard it on the radio in the car, and never been able to make out the words . . .the must sing part. Now we can belt it out, loud and clear! :0! Smiles and laughs, prayers and songs!

    • ServantBoy says:

      Hi Deb and Ann,
Why would I mind you having a party here celebrating God? Isn’t that what our lives are about. I am listening to Desert Song and it brings me so much joy and tears as I sit before God’s feet praising Him.
I will bring Praise, I will rejoice, I will declare that God is my victory!!!
      In Christ,
      Vineet
PS: My daughter and I are listening it for the first time and it sure seems to calm her 🙂

  9. I am not sure which I liked more…the post or all of the joyful comments. I have gotten behind reading here, but I am looking forward to catching up.

    Blessings

  10. ServantBoy says:

    Hi Theresa,
For me it’s the comments which make the post rather than the other way around. Feels like times when we have an impromptu testimony or worship time and all that you can remember is that, not the message. Thanks for taking the time and effort to read and inspire us.
    Blessings,
    Vineet
