The End Times

Revelation 6 I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest. When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword. When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!” When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.

When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers who were to be killed as they had been was completed. I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?”

My heart trembled as I read today’s chapter and as you can see, I did not choose a few verses but instead took the chapter in its entirety to share with you. Today’s chapter starts the beginning of the revelation of the future. Many scholars have varied opinions on what each of the horses mean, when this took place, etc., but for the most part, this vision is accepted as one that is yet to take place, a prophecy of the future.

Yesterday at church, the pastor shared his fear about meditating on Revelation and when he did, God revealed a message to Him that we are to live a life of constant worship of the person of Jesus Christ and not for ourselves. As I read today’s chapter, I wondered what God was saying to us? What is the purpose of revealing such dark realities of a God who is the epitome of love?

God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in it for His glory. We are but a minuscule part of His creation but seemingly the most important part of it because God chose to relate to us individually and personally. God planned us before time began, knows us by name, sees us from within and not just outside, He gave us dominion over His creation, He gave us the freedom to think, choose, and act and what did we do with His goodness to us?

We acted in selfishness and lived for our own glory, we ignored God and disregarded Him, we chose us over our creator and destroyed anyone who He sent to remind us of His love for us, we rebelled and now are so hard at heart that we cannot even accept or appreciate this great God who made all things possible for us.

God has become ‘taboo’ in our homes, schools, universities, offices, communities and lives and we in our self-righteousness believe we can put our trust in science and self rather than in a supremely good God and loving father. If we cannot see Him, if He cannot be a genie in a bottle to us, He must certainly not exist and is all but a fabled tale.

This loving God has plans for us that are better than what we hope and imagine for ourselves. We live in the hope of a long life, few problems, lots of wealth, respect and joy but because of our brokenness can never enjoy it. In Christ, we have hope from ourselves, our brokenness, the challenges of this world and a hope of something more than just surviving.

This hope is not just in this life but beyond our grave and it is a hope of living in the presence of God for eternity without the pains of this life. This hope is not far away and can start today for each of us when we put our trust in God but for those who do not, there is the hope of this life and a horrid tomorrow, the likes of which I fear to even consider.

I pray that we today will not live as one in the world but as people of purpose, a purpose that is higher than this world. I pray that we will live in the fullness of Jesus Christ and use our every moment to share His love and spare everyone around us for what is to come. Our loving God who created to perfection will judge us one day and I cannot begin to imagine His wrath or condemnation and I pray that many will not either.

In His Loving Service,
ServantBoy

Matthew 10:37-39 (Jesus said) “Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

  1. Vineet, This chapter brought tears to my eyes as my heart trembled with yours. Thank you for including the whole chapter in your post. In my post yesterday, I included a link to your blog because reading what you are finding in Revelation has me thinking about it, too, and I was led to post about the 7 churches. My conclusion was similar to what you say: “we are to live a life of constant worship of the person of Jesus Christ and not for ourselves.” May God help us to make it so in our own lives. Peace, Linda

      Linda,
This morning as I prayed, the Lord laid on my heart a new desire that I am able to worship Him everyday and every moment like the saints in heaven and that my life would be lived purely for His glory alone. I pray that for you and your family too and I thank God for placing you in my path and for the amazing support you are to me and to many. Thank you for your encouragement but more than that, thank you for being a faithful servant to the Living Savior, Jesus Christ. Your blog shows evidence of the fruits of the Holy Spirit in your life and I praise God for using you to direct the lost to Him.
      In Christ,
      Vineet

  2. Vineet . . .Jesus is speaking through you so powerfully. Once again, I’m in tears. I don’t believe He ever intended for us to get distracted from Him over His word, but Yes! To worship Him constantly. Praying with you than none should perish. I can’t bear the thought of that. Could you please pray for me, to do all that He asks me to? Thank you . . .deb

      Deb,
To do all that He asks us to do is to be fully obedient to Him and that is something you cannot try to do yourself but can only do through Him. I pray that God will give you the desires of His heart, the ability to fulfill those desires, the opportunities, the wisdom, the strength and courage and a heart of total submission. Only God can achieve greatness in our lives and so I pray that God will do so in your life for His own glory. Remembered your precious princess today and I celebrate the joy she has in having you for her Mom. She is God’s before she is yours and He has made her perfectly and loves her more than we can imagine. To this great God we can gladly commit our children and know that their lives are in Him and that is healing beyond just the physical.
      In Christ,
      Vineet
