1 Thessalonians 4:11-12
Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

Yesterday was a challenging day for me as I was asked permission to feature this blog on an upcoming christian website targeted at the Indian Diaspora living outside of India. Quite an honor I would think but it made me wonder what God wanted because this work is physically mine but the wisdom and direction has been from above and I cannot take credit or direct its path. As I sought God’s response, I received prayer support from my dear blogger friends and this morning’s passage spoke clearly to me. While all this was going on, I was asked a hard question about promoting the blog on Facebook and this passage spoke to me about that too.

One of the challenges we face as Christians is that we try to apply the great commission of sharing the gospel with the world in a human way. I wanted to carry the gospel to the world and decided to use my Facebook profile to do so. I realize now that it was like putting a square peg in a round hole. Christians who felt motivated to read it read but non-Christians avoided it. This was counter productive and God was not glorified. On the contrary, when God desired for this blog to go out to a larger audience, He created the opportunity and all I had to do was comply. Paul’s words to the Thessalonians reminds me that we should serve God with our all but under His guidance and not try to humanize God. I now want to live my life normally and in so doing if people are attracted to Christ, then to God be the glory. Hope you agree with me?

ServantBoy

  1. You know Vineet, I’m so glad that God spoke to you about your situation, which is unique from my situation or someone else’s. I love when He does that! What a great affirmation of what you should do right when you need to know what to do. God bless you as you ever move forward with Him, deb

  2. Vineet, It is such a blessing to see how God works differently in each of our lives. Although the purpose He has for each of us is the same – that is, to spread the Gospel – the method is different and dependent upon the circumstances and opportunities He has placed before each of us. Peace, Linda

      Linda,
      You said it so well:

God certainly works His will uniquely in each of our lives just as Paul’s suffering resulted in stronger believing Thessalonians! Thank you for your support and encouragement. It is such a joy to have you as my family in Christ!
      Blessings,
      Vineet

    Vineet,

I’m so happy that God helped you in making the decision..because when He confirms something..(may not be the same for someone else)…it is the best for you and for the glory of His kingdom.

God Bless you in your new venture..

      Rani,
Thank you for seeing this in the same way as I did which gives me the confidence that I heard it right. In my situation with FB, the issue was that I was trying to promote it and it was more about me. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Lord brings me back to FB but on His terms.
      Blessings,
      Vineet

Vineet you are doing a great work for the Lord, always love to read your messages. That is the reason i clicked the ‘likes’ in your post on the fb page.
Yes, we are not forcing our views on others, and we are not here to advise others, if people like let them read the message, leave a comment, even otherwise people who come to this blog will surely read the post and it is the service which you are doing in spreading the Gospel is more important than the comments, just my personal opinion.

Why should you try to separate it from your fb profile, don’t do that. In fact i don’t find time to visit fb and read your messaes very often but i always make it a point to read your posts as and when i get time. sometimes, avoid commenting on fb because of shortage of time, i look for a few interesting post in fb and then come here, i don’t want to offend my other friends on fb who may misunderstand me if i do not post a comment on their messages. Hope, you understand my point of view.
Keep doing the good work and hope to hear some gospel music in this blog soon and that too in George’s voice.
God bless and all the best dear brother.

      Priya,

Thank you for taking the time to read, comment, encourage and promote this blog. It is a privilege for me to serve God through this blog and I love it because I am constantly learning and growing from God. God is the one who ordains who does what for His glory and I feel privileged being called to serve.

With regards to FB, I agree with you that I have never forced my views upon others. Also, I certainly do not want to disconnect my faith from my life as my life is nothing without Christ. My issue was the motivation to showcase the blog on FB and it seemed more about me and less about Christ. I have found more non-Christians come to me when they felt I was a different person rather than now when they avoid me because I’m this outwardly religious person.

Whenever I have followed God’s lead, there has been blessing and glory is given to God. When I try to take the controls, I find it is not as much a blessing because I’m doing things in my will. Therefore I have given up FB posting until God directs me to do so. Hope you now understand and appreciate why I am doing what I am doing. I look forward to the day when my life is lived out in total submission and that might be only in heaven but until then, the battle continues within.

      Blessings, Vineet
