Power of Obedience

Romans 4:18
Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.”

Last night, while browsing some videos friends had posted on facebook, I watched one of Nick Vujicic. If you ever feel like you have it bad in life and need inspiration, just head over to his website and watch his videos. He was born with no legs or hands but lives life bigger and better than people fully formed. Most importantly, what gives him hope to live each day is not strength, hope or a possible future with limbs but the grace of God. Today’s chapter talks about Abraham being justified by faith in God and what that means to us.

Often we consider stories in the Bible as tales of old but seldom believe them. Abraham was told that he would be the father of the nations but he had no child and he was in his 90s. Imagine how ridiculous the thought could be but instead of sneering or laughing at God, he believed. His wife Sarah was barren and her womb was dead, yet they both believed and as history shows, they had a son, Isaac! God loves us dearly enough to have sacrificed his son for our salvation. Do you not think this God is serious when He asks us to come and submit our problems, worries and troubles to Him? He is willing and ever patient but lets not miss the opportunity to accept his gracious offer. Lets obey like Abraham and be blessed by God with a righteousness that comes from God alone.
