Luke 12:22-26
Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his lifeb? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

Parable after parable, Jesus was teaching his significant following what God’s will for man was and is. Wealth was an area he spoke often about and it might seem depressing to most of us. Most of us devote our lives to providing well for us and our families and some of us are successful at it. To many, the safety in having wealth stored is more than the security of knowing we serve a loving savior. Wealth is measured in terms of money, possessions, jewelry, land, cattle and many other ways. Is the Lord saying that the pursuit of money is wrong then? Can we not build safety nets for ourselves here on earth to safeguard us and our families against difficult times like economic recessions?

In the verses prior to our passage today, we are reminded that if we put our trust in any wealth that is not scriptural, we may never be able to enjoy the fruits of it. Death may rob us of the chance of enjoying it’s protection and provision and our loved ones also may not get it. However, when we focus our lives on serving the Lord, we build for ourselves wealth in eternity and that is never perishing just as we are not when we are saved by God’s grace. Today the Lord reminds us that we are not to worry about our lives, our food, our physical health or clothes because he will provide and has been providing better than he does to even the birds of the air. We are considered God’s own children when we take his yoke upon our shoulders and we can rest in knowing that he has our best in mind. Now the pursuit of wealth is a joy because it is spiritual and all other wealth we acquire is from him and for his glory. Lets refocus our lives to serving him faithfully and building our treasures in heaven.

Hi Vineet it is a good topic to discuss as I see most of our activities revolve around how to get money to pay those endless waves of bills coming our way every now & then.

It makes us feel as believers oh how I wish God would bless me with abundance & we go about quoting scriptures like Jabesh Prayer, Abraham’s promise claims in gal 3, quote det God gives the power to get wealth etc, there is no problem in quoting such scriptures but the perhaps we get into thinking God would give abundance of wealth without doing anything, perhaps what we dont realize is that God always advocates hard work, the proverb is full of teachings about working hard & getting rich not just closing your eyes & praying & quoting scriptures. The problem is also compounded by the T.V preachers who advocate give & you will receive 100 times but what about the hard work part which we often forget.
Proverbs says easy money develops wings, but the money earned by hard work stays & also grows. I think we should ask God instead to show what I should be doing ? where should I go today that I may be blessed. Like for me as a business man my prayer would be God grant me wisdom to call the right client for business & once I get that right client do his or her work efficiently so that there would be a win win situation.

God does give wisdom without finding fault as it is written in James 1:4, without showing us our progress report which we as human feel will never come upto God’s expectation.

Nevertheless, in my life I may not have abundance but when I look back He has always provided me when I needed it at the right time so what if I dont have millions, it is after all how you look it at. If you have millions who knows you may start trusting your millions instead of God.

Money will become your security & you will not need to pray to God to help you in such as situation because you will use your money immediately to satisfy your need or solve the problem.

By not give us abundance God is teaching us to keep trust in him remember Jesus told us to pray for our daily bread not weekly or monthly or yearly bread. The problem with us is that we want to control our destiny our circumstances our situations.

God told the children of Israel to collect the Manna daily not weekly if they collected more it would stink

We should always let God be God even when we pray, the moment we should not try to manipulate God in asking God to give us the control panel. But if we insist He might give it then we also should be ready to face the music.

Best thing is to enjoy life one day at a time not if we start thinking about many days our brains will be like scrambled egg.

      Hi Rajnish
Thank you for making the effort to read the blog and comment. It is always such a treat to hear from near and dear 🙂 You have written about a topic that is HOT in the Christian world. With the growth of the ‘Health Wealth’ gospel, the Christian world has been shaking and is yet to come to terms with what’s right in God’s sight. Yearning for anything more than yearning for God is idolatry in the eyes of God and therefore an issue. When we have our eyes fixed on Jesus and our hearts set on following Him, He fills us with His desire for our lives and that gives us immense peace and fulfillment. When we seek what we desire, we are never satisfied and attaining our desires is like trying to grab air in our hands. In the course of life, I’ve lived with much and little in terms of resources and when I consider the peace I have had, I find that having Jesus is having much and nothing else matters. A few fils / cents / paise in our hands will get us by far further than the billions if He has His hand upon it.
